Your body has different ways of telling you what its going through. Ancient Chinese medicine says that our faces are capable of giving us information about the health of our inner organs.

Acne on the forehead

According to Chinese medicine, your forehead is intricately linked to the digestive system and the area between your eyebrows is linked to the liver. So when you over-indulge in foods that are rich or go overboard with alcohol, it causes spots in this area, which go away after some time. However, if the breakouts occur frequently, they could indicate poor nutritional habits.

What to do: Make sure you follow a healthy diet and stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. It would also be a good idea to get yourself tested for food intolerances, which are known to affect the liver and digestive system.

Spots on the cheeks

There could be several reasons for this — they could either be simple causes like allergic reactions to cosmetics or dirty bed linen. Or they could indicate some problem with the lungs. This area is said to be linked to your lungs and spots on your cheeks could be a result of respiratory distress — studies say that smokers, asthmatics and allergy sufferers are prone to breakouts on their cheeks.

What to do: Temporary spots can be eliminated by changing your linen often and discarding old cosmetics. Recurring spots need to be checked by an expert.

Breakouts on the chin

You could be suffering from a hormonal imbalance if you suffer from spots on your chin and jaw line. Breakouts are also known to appear on women at some stages of their monthly cycle. However, if these spots are persistent, it could also indicate towards an endocrine disorder like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

What to do: Get your hormone levels checked.

Dark circles and under-eye bags

While these problems are mostly hereditary, if you feel like they've become worse or suddenly appeared, it could be a a problem related to the kidneys. The under-eye area is said to be linked to the kidneys, so changes may suggest dehydration or a build-up of toxins.

What to do: Drink lots of water and reduce intake of alcohol, salt and caffeine and salt. Another thing it could mean is that you are anaemic because of vitamin B12 or iron deficiencies.

Discolouration of the tongue

Your tongue can indicate several health issues — anaemia, which is caused by a lack of iron, folate or vitamin B12, results in an itchy, sore or reddish tongue. On the other hand, if your tongue has a bluish tinge, it could indicate a lack of oxygen in your blood stream while white lesions could be a sign of oral thrush.

What to do: Get yourself examined by an expert. Excessive hair

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is known to cause excessive body or facial hair in women. This endocrine disorder is common condition resulting in a lot of body hair as well as acne, weight gain and irregular periods.

What to do: Visit a gynaecologist.
